Water Damage FAQ

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask most.

Questions and answers

What happens when I call?

Describe whether you need water damage restoration, fire damage restoration, biohazard cleanup or mold remediation. Our team asks a few questions about the damage and your address, then schedules a technician to inspect, explain the scope of work and start mitigation.

What services do you provide?

Water damage restoration, emergency water removal, structural drying, flood and sewage cleanup, mold inspection and remediation, fire and smoke damage restoration, and biohazard cleanup.

What should I do first after water damage?

Get to safety, stay away from water near electricity, stop the water at the source if you can do it safely, and photograph the damage. Then call for help.

Does insurance cover water damage?

Coverage depends on the policy, cause of loss, exclusions and circumstances. Document the damage and contact your insurer when appropriate.

Will water damage cause mold?

Not always. Moisture that remains in building materials can increase the risk of microbial growth, so prompt drying can matter.

Do you serve my area?

We serve homes and businesses across the United States. Availability and response times vary by location, so call with your ZIP code to confirm service at your address.

How fast can you get to my property?

Response times depend on your location, the time of day and current demand, especially after storms. Call with your address and we will give you the current scheduling window.

Do you work with my insurance company?

Yes. We document the loss with photos, moisture readings and drying logs, and we can share those records with your adjuster. Coverage decisions are made by your insurer.

How long does it take to dry out a house?

Most clean-water jobs dry in about 3 to 5 days with professional equipment. Hardwood, plaster, basements and larger losses can take longer. We take readings daily and remove equipment when materials reach dry standard.

Do I need to leave my home during restoration?

Usually not for clean-water drying, although the equipment is noisy. For sewage, extensive mold, fire damage or biohazard cleanup, we may recommend staying elsewhere until the affected area is contained and cleaned.

Do you also handle mold, fire and biohazard cleanup?

Yes. Along with water damage restoration we provide mold inspection and remediation, fire and smoke damage restoration and biohazard cleanup, so one team can handle related problems.

Can you help businesses and rental properties?

Yes. We handle commercial water damage for offices, retail, restaurants and multi-family buildings, and we work with property managers and landlords.

What should I not do after water damage?

Do not use household vacuums on standing water, do not enter rooms where water is near electricity, do not turn on HVAC if ducts were flooded and do not disturb visible mold. Call and let a technician assess the area.

What should I do first in a water damage emergency?

Get to safety, avoid water near electricity, shut off the main water valve if you can reach it safely, and then call for help.

Where is the main shutoff valve?

Usually where the water line enters the house: basement, crawl space, utility room, garage or an outdoor meter box.

Can I clean a sewage backup myself?

Small toilet overflows on hard floors can sometimes be cleaned with gloves and disinfectant. Backups that reach carpet, drywall or large areas are best handled by professionals because of health risks.

Does homeowners insurance cover flood damage?

Many standard homeowners policies exclude flood. Separate flood coverage may apply. Coverage depends on the policy, cause of loss, exclusions and circumstances, so contact your insurer.
